As photographers move forward with their careers, sometimes things gradually slow down. Not true for R.J. Muna. With an ever-expanding client list, PDN cover and stepping into an Executive Vice President role on the APA National board, he is taking it all in stride.
Recently, SYNC had the pleasure of re-connecting with R.J. on Mazda. Impeccably organized and produced by Mark Hofmann Productions, this shoot at Inyokern Airport produced a stellar image for Art Director Diana Phillips.
As technical and he is creative, R.J. is masterful in is approach to blocking out a very complex composite shot. Shooting multiple camera angles to provide extra options in post, R.J. shot 7 vehicles during magic hour to be assembled into a single image.
We think the results speak for themselves!
Matt Henry took The Trip…not only across the Atlantic, but also to show us his take on the spectacle of our very own 60’s counterculture. SYNC had the distinct pleasure to work with Matt to help him achieve the cinematic look and mind-altering taste of the sixties that he was after. Shot at the Four Aces Movie Location in Palmdale, Matt hand-crafted each and every detail in this odyssey, from the wigs, wardrobe and props to the hand written backstory for each character. Check out the online journal of Matt’s journey in the production of his very first book, Short Stories and see what it looks like for yourself!
Recently, SYNC had the pleasure of working with L.A. photographer, James Law on his shoot for Upton Belts. From the very beginning, it was obvious that this shoot was going to be absolutely iconic. From the strong, graphic imagery, special effects and striking models, James took belts where they have never gone before!
Shot in San Diego, James Law worked with the SYNC crew to craft a simple, elegant lighting approach . . . the results speak for themselves.
2015 has been an amazing year for West Coast shooter, Shaun Fenn. Recently named one of Luerzers Archive 200 Best Ad Photographers, Shaun has been working tirelessly for such notable clients as ASICS, NRG, Steelcase, FedEX and SAP just to name a few!
SYNC met up with Shaun recently on a shoot for athletic footwear giant, ASICS. In the spirit of the brand – a sound mind in a sound body – Shaun kept paces with two of ASICS top volleyball athletes, Kerri Walsh Jennings and Lane Carico.
With a wide variety of action shots in Irvine at the Misty May-Treanor Sports Center and Manhattan Beach, Shaun pulled out all the stops and had SYNC add Arri M18’s to his Sprinter package. With a mostly cloudy day at the beach, they proved to be exactly what was needed to bring long-time San Diego Agency VITRO‘s vision to light!
For the fifth straight year, the 115 foot California Princess yacht was home for the TV Guide Magazine / TV Insider Seaside Studio at Comic-Con in San Diego! Moored in the lovely North San Diego Bay behind the Convention Center, the 1,600 sq. ft. observation deck was transformed into a photography studio while the enclosed mid deck functioned as a well stocked green room and video interview/multimedia center. TV Insider provided lots of great BTS images . . . check them out here and here!
SYNC and portrait, fashion and lifestyle photographer Adam Olszewski teamed up to provide all the horsepower necessary to keep up with the rapid-fire pace of this media blitz! With only a few minutes with each cast, the action is fast and furious. During the three day event, the casts from well over 70 current and upcoming TV shows were photographed! Thanks to TV Guide Magazine’s staff and the swift military precision with which this entire event was organized, everything went off without a hitch!
SYNC’s super well maintained gear (and brand new Profoto Pro 8 packs) more than kept up with all the non-stop 3 day action. SYNC DIGITAL‘s new 8 core Mac Pro with 64GB of RAM didn’t hurt either, as processing/backup and capture were all done on set.
Here’s a few more images from the fun-filled days on the yacht…
It’s always nice to get a Thank You card. Especially one that has this nice of a message inside. Adam is a class act for sure . . .
When New York Photographer Jason Goodrich was assigned National Pro Grid League portrait series in San Jose, he called SYNC for his equipment and crew needs. What he got was a Sprinter Van loaded with Profoto, Briese, Phase One gear and a top of the line crew who knew how to handle it.
Jason and crew shot 40 athletes per day, converted Raw images with Metadata, and Retouched on-site for an immediate finished product. NPGL photographed by Jason Goodrich, Produced by Rachael Inman, 1st Assistant Carl Chisolm, Retoucher Jimmy Fikes, Digi Tech Dylan Gordon, Photo Assistant Luc-Richard, Equipment, Sprinter Van, & Crew referral by SYNC. Profoto has announced the new Pro-B4 battery pack with flash durations down to 1/25,000 sec, fast recycling (30 flashes per second) and an 11-stop range. The B4 can also be plugged in and used as a studio generator.
The Pro-B4 is by far the fastest battery flash on the market. But there is more to it. A closer look at Pro-B4 reveals the following:
1. Extremely short flash durations
With flash durations down to 1/25,000s, the Pro-B4 offers the shortest flash durations of any generator on the market. It is now possible to freeze motion in a way that yesterday’s photographers could only dream of.
2. Exceptionally fast recycling
The Pro-B4 is the fastest recycling battery generator on the market. At lower power settings it is able to fire up to 30 flashes per second, while the longest wait on full power is less than a second. In other words: you will never have to wait for the Pro-B4. Now how fast you can shoot depends only on your camera.
3. Outstanding reliability
The solid-cast aluminium chassis and the sturdy rubber frame ensure that the Pro-B4 can take a beating. All connection are covered with protective lids, helping to prevent moisture and dust from entering the generator.
4. Powerful inside and outside the studio
On-location, its performance rivals that of any mains-powered studio generator. In the studio it gets even better. The battery can fully recharge in less than 45 minutes and can be recharged while in use! This means that if the modelling light is used moderately, the pack can be used continuously.
5. Extraordinary power range and superb precision
The Pro-B4 offers a huge 11 f-stop power range with unrivaled stability in power output and color temperature. It has two independent outlets with individual and intuitive controls and displays.
6. Integrated Air radio sync and remote
The unique Air system is the fastest radio sync system in the world. Control the Pro-B4 from your camera, your computer or from the palm of your hand.
Check out the comparison chart below to see how the B-4 stacks up to the B-3 and 7-B:
Working at the top of his game, celebrity and entertainment photographer Matthias Clamer hooked up with SYNC and FX Networks for a gallery shoot for the much acclaimed FXX Wednesday night show, The League.
This particular shoot was unique because a specially trained Unicorn worked his magic for us all!
2011 Communication Arts featured cover artist, Mark Katzman recently shot this energy packed ad campaign for The Almond Board of California. With shooting locations from Balboa Park and Malibou Lake to Venice Beach, Mark inspired and captured the real-life energy that keeps his clients thrilled and coming back for more!
We are always excited to work with Mark (one of SYNC’s first clients!) and are happy to show some behind the scenes shots taken by the SYNC crew along side the final ads. Thanks Mark!
